Friends, ladies, countrymen! Lend me your ears
That I may recite this, my tale of woe,
Love, laughter, frustration,
Kindness, and joy.
Cocooned in this womb of warmth I lie sleeping, peaceful. Foetus-like in this haven, my hand moves slowly towards my mouth, thumb extended. The gentle, rhythmic bass beats through me and I know I am safe.
Suddenly this warmth is ripped away from me, and I scream and kick out protestingly at the brightness and coldness of this alien world.
“Come on Laus, it’s time to get up. We have to get ready”
“Go away I’m sleeping.”
That was how my day started this morning and is probably very close to how my life started nearly 21 years ago, as a bit of a premmie via ceasarian section. For the details though, you are going to have to speak to Mom.
I decided to honour that event with this piece.
